How do I edit a video with AI prompts?
- Drop your footage into Selects and analyze it. Analysis takes about 20 minutes per hour of video, and you can keep working while it runs.
- Type what you want in chat, like cut it to 8 minutes and keep the unboxing.
- Chat shows its plan. Approve it and the draft lands on the timeline.
- Keep giving notes, or fix anything by hand.
What can I ask chat to do?
Most of an edit:
- Cut to a length or a storyline, or pull out the highlights
- Tighten the pacing: silences, filler words, repeats and jump cuts
- Cut to a script you attach, line by line, in script order
- Build the edit on the picture: who's in the shot, what they're doing, where it was shot
- Place B-roll, switch cameras on a multicam shoot, and change clip speed
- Add motion graphics, transitions and voiceover
Captions are made in the Captions app, and color is set in the Adjust tab.
Can I change the edit after chat makes it?
Yes. Every draft is on a real timeline, so you can fix any cut by hand or keep giving notes in chat.
You can also leave timestamped comments on the draft and send them all to chat at once. It plans one pass over every comment and builds a new draft, so the original stays as it was.
Does chat use credits?
On Selects models, yes. Chat uses Selects credits, with no fixed rate per message.
If you connect a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan inside Selects, chat runs on that plan and uses no Selects credits. Analyzing your footage always uses Selects credits.

Can I edit from Claude or Codex instead?
Yes. Connect Claude desktop, Claude Code, Codex or OpenClaw to Selects over MCP, and your agent can search the footage, cut it and hand it off. The Selects app needs to be running on the same computer.
