The cut and the labels,
ready in Final Cut

An .fcpxml Final Cut reads natively

Choose Final Cut Pro under Handoff to, then import the file in Final Cut. The timeline comes in linked to your original media, and your originals are never modified.

See what made the cut

Turn on Mark used clips on full timeline and you get a second timeline with everything you shot, the clips in your edit marked. Track layout, speaker labels and captions come across with the cut.

Multicam in both directions

Selects syncs every camera and mic by waveform or timecode and switches angles when you ask. Already synced in Final Cut? Import the .fcpxml and its multicam clips come in as synced timelines, one angle per track.

Just say it

Type what you want the way you'd tell an editor. These are the kind of prompts that work.

  • Prompt: Assemble an 8 minute rough cut of today's vlog. Skip the setup, keep the coffee shop and the drive home

  • Prompt: Pull every shot of the rings, the first look and the toasts into one selects draft

  • Prompt: Sync the two cameras to the lav by timecode and stay on the close-up whenever she's talking

How it works

  1. Drop in your footage

  2. Ask for the selects or the rough cut

  3. Hand off, then File > Import > XML in Final Cut

The logging is done before Final Cut opens.

FAQ

How do I open a Selects edit in Final Cut Pro?
  1. Click Export in the top right and choose Final Cut Pro under Handoff to.
  2. Set the options and where the file goes, then click Handoff.
  3. In Final Cut Pro, go to File > Import > XML and select the .fcpxml file.
What comes across in Final Cut Pro?

The edit points, track layout and speaker labels, with every clip linked to your original media. Turn on Include captions and the caption text and timing come too. The frame size carries over.

Topic titles don't. The option to bring them across is in the Premiere and DaVinci Resolve handoffs, not the Final Cut one.

What stays behind in Selects?

Effects, transitions, color, text and graphics, keyframes, position and scale, and volume changes. Transitions become plain cuts and graphics arrive as gaps, so do the finishing in Final Cut.

Selects warns you before the handoff when it finds any of these. To keep them, export a video from Selects instead.

What does Fix and export do?

It stops audio drifting ahead of the picture. Some file formats make Final Cut Pro play audio slightly early, and when Selects spots them it lists them before the export.

Fix and export hands off using corrected copies, saved next to the originals with _fcpfix in the name. Your original files and your edit are left untouched.

What frame rate does the Final Cut handoff use?

The lowest frame rate in the project, up to 60 fps. Every handoff conforms to the lowest rate in the project, and Final Cut exports are capped at 60.

Can I bring a Final Cut multicam into Selects?

Yes. Import the .fcpxml or .fcpxmld and its multicam clips come in as synced timelines, one angle per track. Retimed clips and nested sequences are skipped.
