Where they differ

  • A clipper, and an editor

OpusClip turns long videos into short clips and posts them to social platforms. If that's the whole job, OpusClip is built for it. Selects is a desktop editor for the whole job: the shorts, the full episode and the multicam cut.

  • Every short opens on a timeline

Each short Selects cuts arrives as its own draft on a multi-track timeline, so you can trim it, re-caption it or switch the angle by hand.

  • Handoff to three editors

Selects hands off to Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Avid Media Composer. OpusClip's pricing lists export to Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve on its Pro and Business plans. Its help pages describe an XML export one short at a time, and say Final Cut Pro isn't directly supported.

  • Web and phone, or desktop

OpusClip runs on the web and has an iOS app. Selects is a desktop app for macOS on Apple Silicon and Windows 11.

  • MCP on both, for different jobs

OpusClip's MCP lets Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor clip, caption, reframe and schedule existing video, on its Pro and Business plans. The Selects MCP lets Claude desktop, Claude Code, Codex and OpenClaw edit your footage on the Selects timeline.

FAQ

Is Selects a good OpusClip alternative?

Yes, if you want the shorts and the long edit from one tool. Selects cuts up to 10 shorts per request, each its own draft, and every one opens on a timeline you can change by hand.

If you only need clips from a long video, made in the browser or on your phone, OpusClip is built for that.

Can Selects turn a long video into shorts?
  1. Drop in the long video and analyze it. Analysis takes about 20 minutes per hour of video.
  2. Ask chat for shorts, like five clips under a minute, each starting on the answer.
  3. Set the frame size to 1080×1920, check each draft, then publish to YouTube or TikTok, up to 10 at a time.
Does Selects work with Premiere, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Avid Media Composer?

Yes. Any draft hands off as a .prproj, .fcpxml, .drp or .aaf, with its edit points, tracks and speaker labels. Effects, color and text don't carry over, so you finish those in your editor.

Can I run Selects from Claude?

Yes. The Selects MCP connects Claude desktop, Claude Code, Codex and OpenClaw to the Selects app on your computer. The agent's editing doesn't use Selects credits; analysis does.

Does Selects run in the browser?

No. Selects is a desktop app for macOS on Apple Silicon and Windows 11. Your projects are saved on your computer.
