Auto caption generator

Captions that look
like you meant them.

Selects transcribes every word, spells names the way you fixed them, and captions it in the style you describe. Then tune any line by hand.

Less to fix,
from the first pass

Describe the look once

Typeface, fill, size, background and animation, set from a sentence or picked from 14 built-in looks. Save the one you like as a preset and every project can use it.

Word by word, or line by line

Light up each word as it's spoken for a fast talker, or hold a calm line at a time for an interview. Switch between the two whenever you like; it's styling, not a re-caption.

Names spelled right, everywhere

Analysis pulls out the names and terms it heard. Fix a spelling once and it's fixed in every clip and draft in the project, including footage you add later.

Built for more than one person on screen

Put each speaker on a caption track of their own, or move a line to the right speaker in one click. Made for interviews, podcasts and panels.

The cleanup pass, set once

Line length, one line or two, letter case and punctuation, set as rules. Hide filler words, repeats or profanity in the captions without touching the cut, and ask chat for a spell check.

In another language

Ask for Spanish captions under English narration, or any other pair. The translation lands on its own track, styled like the rest.

Just say it

Type what you want the way you'd tell an editor. These are real prompts, and the clips are what came back.

Prompt: Make the captions pop word by word, I talk fast in this one

  • Prompt: Use my brand font and put the word being spoken in lime

  • Prompt: Make the numbers and product names bigger than the rest

  • Prompt: Two lines max, upper case, and hide the ums

  • Prompt: Give each speaker their own caption track

How it works

  1. Drop in your video

  2. Describe the caption look

  3. Fine-tune, then post to TikTok or YouTube

FAQ

Does it cost anything to add captions?

Adding and applying captions doesn't use credits. Captions are built from the transcript, so your footage needs to be analyzed first, and analysis runs on credits.

You can download Selects and start on the Free plan, no credit card required.

How do I add captions to a video?
  1. Drop your video into Selects and analyze it.
  2. Open the Captions app, or ask chat for captions and describe the look, like big and bold, one word at a time.
  3. Fix any word or line, then apply. The captions land on their own track.
Can I edit the captions after they're made?

Yes. Fix words, split or merge lines, or hide a word without changing the cut. Restyle them any time in the Adjust tab.

If you change the cut later, regenerate the captions so they follow it. Regenerating resets your caption edits.

What's the difference between word-by-word and karaoke-style captions?

Word by word shows one word at a time: set the line length to a single word. Karaoke-style keeps the whole line on screen and lights the word being spoken: style the spoken word with By state in the Adjust tab.

Both are styling on the same captions, so you can switch between them without captioning again.

How do I get names and brand terms right?

Use Check names and terms. Analysis lists the names and terms it heard; correct a spelling once and it applies to every clip and draft in the project, and to clips you analyze later.

Can I make captions in another language?

Yes. Ask chat to translate the captions and name the language. The translation goes on its own track under the original, so you can keep both or pick one.

Can I export captions for YouTube or as an SRT file?

Yes, both ways. Captions are burned into any video you export, which is what TikTok, Reels and Shorts need. For YouTube or anywhere that takes a subtitle file, export a Caption SRT, one per language.

Do captions carry over to Premiere, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve?

The caption text and timing do, when you turn on Include captions in the handoff. The styling doesn't, so you restyle them in your editor.
